Are YOU Leading The Super Tuesday Revolution?
February 5th, 2008Super Tuesday in the USA… Does it matter who wins?
Perhaps you’re like many people across the world – a bit jaded with political processes and elections? Well, here’s another take on Super Tuesday…
As I write, voting has started in the USA on what is billed as ‘one of the biggest days in American political history’. John McCain appears to be in pole position for the Republicans, with neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton likely to amass enough delegates to secure the contest for the Democrats.
Well, we’ll see… But will it make a lot of difference to the world who wins the election? Most institutions have already discounted the results and the major complaint seems to be that the principle candidates all have the same policies!
But the one thread which could really change the world is how the new President elected in November deals with global peace – aka ‘terrorism’ – and defuses the present ‘imperialistic’ approach.
At least we in the west can take comfort from the fact that – in most cases – democracy affords us changes of government that don’t involve bloodshed and shields us from many of the sectarian and tribal excesses that, sadly, continue to trouble the world.
But I digress…
Have a look at how Google is using Youtube and Google Mapping to cover the Super Tuesday process:
http://www.youtube.com/supertuesday.
As google notes: “This is the first presidential election in which YouTube has given voters the same power to broadcast the events as the big broadcasters have. We’ve created a central location to follow the action on video and we’re pulling in video clips from voters, candidates, and news organizations across the country on a Google Map…all these great videos on one map gives the most diverse narrative of the campaign trail…scroll across the map and zoom in to see videos from your area”.
So perhaps there IS a revolution going on – at grass roots level… Perhaps we’re at a watershed for news reporting, where YOU will be the one that captures and ‘edits’ the news, rather than the unseen producers behind the great media houses?
What do you think is the future of news reporting? Will Google (or the potential new Microsoft/Yahoo combo) take over the lead in 2008?
Please post your views below…
Cheers!
